Amy Froehlich hit two free throws with two seconds left
to play as UNLV finished off a second half comeback with a
77-76 victory over Delaware in the opening round of the
Golden Gopher Classic at the University of Minnesota
Saturday.
The Blue Hens (3-1) jumped out to a 38-31 halftime lead
but could not hold on as they dropped their first game of
the season. The Blue Hens will play host Minnesota, a first
round 84-59 loser to Bradley, in Sunday's consolation game.
Danielle Leyfert led four Blue Hens in double
figures with 19 points and five assists while Cindy
Johnson had 16 points and five assists, Renee
Baker added 13 points, Megan Dellegrotti had 12
points and four assists, and Suzanne Street had six
points and 13 rebounds.
The Hens shot 43.6 percent from the field (24 of 55) but
were hurt by 27 turnovers. UNLV (3-0) remained unbeaten as
Froehlich erupted for 39 points on 15 of 28 shooting from
the field and also pulled eight rebounds. Kristen Pool added
11 points and six assists for the Rebels.
