NEWARK, DE -- Using an early offensive explosion and 22 points from senior Danielle Leyfert, Delaware routed Asker, Norway, 97-52, in exhibition women's basketball action at the Bob Carpenter Center Sunday afternoon.

Delaware scored 26 of the first 28 points of the game over the first 6:02 to take control early. The Blue Hens' fast break attack featured 10 points from Leyfert, a forward from Vienna, VA and an America East Pre-season All-Conference selection. Leyfert finished the day shooting 9 for 11 from the floor and 4 for 4 at the free throw line. She also gradded seven rebounds in 23 minutes of action.

After the initial outburst by Delaware, Asker never got within single digits of the Blue Hens. Delaware's lead was 30-4 when the Lady Aliens went on a 13-0 run to pull within 13 wiith 6:14 left in the first half. However, Delaware closed the half with a 20-5 run and never looked back.

Senior Cindy Johnson added 19 points and five assists for Delaware. The Far Rockaway, NY native was 8 for 14 from the fieldand also added three steals and four rebounds in just 24 minutes of action.

Sophomore Megan Dellegrotti, returning from torn knee ligaments that caused her to miss the final month of last season, also had 14 points, shooting 4 for 7 from three-point range. Redshirt sophomore Allison Trapp, a transfer from East Carolina, also added 15 points off the bench in her first appearance in a Delaware uniform.

Asker, which was led by Nanna Sand's 15 poin ts, was hampered by 35 turnovers. Delaware recorded 21 steals in the game, led by Dellegrotti with five.

The Blue Hens open the regular season Friday night in the WNIT at George Washington beginning at 7 p.m. The game can be heard on the Blue Hen Sports Radio Network (flagship WJBR 1290-AM) beginning with the pre-game show at 6:30 p.m.
