GREENSBORO, NC -The University of
Delaware women's basketball team suffered its first loss of
the season as host University of North Carolina Greensboro
held off a late rally to win the final game of the UNC
Greensboro Tournament 67-62 at Fleming Gymnasium Saturday
night.
After the Blue Hens raced out to an early
10-point lead, the Spartans answered with a 13-2 run to take
a 16-15 lead with 11:26 left in the first half and never
looked back.
The Spartans jumped ahead of the Blue
Hens by as many as 13 points early in the second half, but
the Blue Hens battled back, closing the deficit to within
two points with 3:02 left in the game. Delaware would come
no closer, though, as UNC Greensboro (3-1) handed the Blue
Hens their first loss of the young season.
For the Blue Hens (1-1), Julie
Sailer (Washington Crossing, PA/Council Rock) and
Lindsay Davis (River Edge, NJ/River Edge) led all
scorers with 16 points apiece, while Christina Rible
(Little Silver, NJ/Red Bank Regional) pulled down 13
rebounds in the effort.
Tournament Most Valuable Player Sandi
Reid powered the Spartans with 12 points and 15
rebounds.
Rible, Sailer, and Megan Dellegrotti were
named to the All-Tournament team for the Blue Hens.
The Blue Hens will be back in action on
Wednesday, when they travel up to Lewisburg, PA to face
Bucknell University. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
