Dellegrotti, Rible Lead the Way as Blue Hens Remain Red-Hot

Megan Dellegrotti scored 11 of her game-high 20 points from foul line

WILLIAMSBURG, VA -- Megan Dellegrotti scored 11 of her game-high 20 points from the foul line and forward Christina Rible continued her dominance on the boards with 16 rebounds and 14 points as the University of Delaware women's basketball team continued to roll with a 60-52 Colonial Athletic Association victory over host William & Mary Sunday afternoon at William & Mary Hall.

The Blue Hens (19-5, 12-3) moved one step closer to their third straight 20-win season as Dellegrotti (Berwick/Berwick, PA) led the way, hitting 11 of 13 free throws and connecting on three three-pointers.

She recorded her fifth 20-point game of the season for the Hens. Delaware won its second straight game and was a winner for the 12th time in the last 13 games. Delaware's win, coupled with a loss by James Madison, kept the Blue Hens in second place in the CAA standings, three games ahead of JMU with three games to play.

William & Mary, which gave the Hens all it could handle in itsJan. 27 meeting in Newark before Delaware prevailed 80-77 in double overtime, fell to 10-14, 4-11 CAA with its fourth straight loss. Forward Quintana Walker had 16 points and six rebounds while Andrea Gross added 11 points and seven rebounds and guard Jen Sobota contributed 11 points and five assists for the Tribe.

Rible (Red Bank Regional/Little Silver, NJ) recorded her ninth double-double of the season and pulled a season-high 16 rebounds for the second straight game, including 11 on the defensive boards as UD held a 43-30 rebounding advantage. Allison Trapp added eight points and three assists to aid the Blue Hen effort.

"This was a great win on the road today," said Delaware head coach Tina Martin, who recorded her 97th career victory at Delaware. "We did an outstanding job controlling their penetration. Our defense led the way. We showed a lot more patience than we did in our previous game with William & Mary and were very disciplined."

Delaware trailed for the first five minutes of the game but quickly took control from there as the Blue Hens used a 15-0 run to take the lead for good, going up 19-9 with 12:30 left in the first half. Rible hit three field goals and Dellegrotti nailed a three-pointer to key the decisive run. The Hens used another 10-3 run to build a 29-14 lead with 4:37 remaining. The Tribe rallied to cut the halftime lead to 31-23.

The Blue Hens led the entire second half but had to withstand a late Tribe rally to earn the victory. William & Mary's Gross converted a free throw with 3:28 left to cut the lead to 50-46, but Dellegrotti answered with three straight free throws, Christine Cole added a jumper with 1:02 left, and Dellegrotti added two more free throws with 41 seconds remaining as the Hens held on.

Delaware returns to action Feb. 21 for its final home game of the season at the Bob Carpenter Center as the Blue Hens host George Mason.
