Stars on Senior Day with 30 Points as
Delaware Rallies to Down Hofstra

senior forward Tiara Malcom celebrated
Senior Day by scoring a season-high 30
points and keyed a second half comeback as
the Blue Hens rallied for a 62-56 Colonial
Athletic Association women's basketball
victory over Hofstra in the final regular
season home game of the year at the Bob
Carpenter Center Sunday afternoon.
The Blue
Hens (22-4, 15-2 CAA) won their second
straight game and maintained their lead
atop the CAA standings as they downed
Hofstra for the 11th straight time and
remained undefeated vs. the Pride at home
with a record of 21-0 all-time. Hofstra
lost its third straight game to fall to
12-14 (7-10 CAA).
Malcom, a
senior from Wilmington, DE (Caravel),
connected on 8 of 16 shots from the field
and knocked down 14 of 15 free throws
while pulling six rebounds to highlight
her final career home game at Delaware.
Malcom, who scored 18 of her points in the
second half, also moved into fifth place
on the all-time Delaware scoring list with
1,465 points and posted her second career
30-point game. She also has scored 20 or
more points 15 times in her
career.
Senior
Tiffany Young added nine points, Tyresa
Smith pulled a team-high nine rebounds,
and Liz Hayes added nine points on three
three-pointers as Delaware overcame 34
percent (18 of 53) shooting from the
field.
Hofstra
was led by Vanessa Gidden's 16 points and
12 rebounds while Lizanne Murphy added
seven points and 11 rebounds, Charlotte
Baldrey-Chourio added 12 points and five
assists off the bench, and CAA leading
scorer Cigi McCollin added 11 points for
the Pride. Hofstra shot 46.5 percent from
the field (20 of 43) but couldn't overcome
33 turnovers. Gidden's double-double was
her eighth of the season.
The Blue
Hens jumped out to leads of 9-0 and 13-3
in the first six minutes but could manage
little after that as they went one stretch
of 12 minutes and 22 seconds without a
field goal. Hofstra used a 10-2 run during
the span to tie the game at 15-15 with
8:57 left in the opening stanza and upped
the lead to nine points at 25-16 with 3:15
left. The Pride took a 27-21 lead into
intermission.
Delaware
chipped away at the Hofstra lead in the
second half and eventually tied the game
at 35-35 with 11:58 remaining. But Hofstra
recovered and upped the lead back to seven
points at 44-37 on a three-pointer by
McCollin with 9:10 left. Hofstra then
turned the ball over on each of its next
six possessions as Delaware got back in
the game and tied it at 44-44 with 6:18
left.
Hofstra
took the lead back briefly but the Hens
went up for good when Smith converted two
free throws with 4:34 left for a 46-45
advantage. Malcom then made sure the Hens
would stay in front as she scored 10
points in the final 2:30, including going
8 for 8 from the foul line, to preserve
the victory. Hofstra never got closer
than three points the final four minutes
of the contest.
Delaware,
which will close out the regular season
March 3 at James Madison, posted its 22nd
win of the season, marking the third
highest total in school history. The Hens
have won 20 or more games five times in
the last six seasons.
