NEWARK, DE -- Chrissy Fisher hit her first 11 shots from the field and finished with a team-high 25 points as the University of Delaware built a 20-point halftime lead and cruised to a 71-54 non-league women’s basketball win over American University Friday night at the Bob Carpenter Center.

Fisher, a senior forward from Rumson, NJ (Rumson-Fair Haven HS), finished the night hitting on 11 of 13 shots from the field and also pulled a team-high eight rebounds as the Blue Hens (2-1) won their 14th straight regular season non-league game at the BCC since the 2003-04 season.

Kristina Gineitis and Kyle DeHaven both came off the bench to give solid efforts for the Hens as Gineitis recorded nine points and four rebounds and DeHaven scored eight points and dished out five assists. The Hens shot 50 percent from the field (30 of 60) while committing just 12 turnovers to American’s 26.

American (1-2), which lost its second straight game, was led by junior guard Liz Hayes who exploded for a career-high 29-point effort that included 7 of 12 three-point shooting. Hayes, who played her first two seasons at Delaware before transferring, made an impressive return as she set a school record and tied the BCC standard for most three-point field goals in a game. Abby Lipskis came off the bench to add six points and a team-high 10 rebounds for the Eagles while Talicia Jackson chipped in with nine points.

Fisher, a second-year transfer from Maryland, reached the 25-point mark for the second straight game after netting 26 in Delaware’s 68-60 loss at Boston College Tuesday night. She hit her final field goal attempt vs. BC and her first 11 shots vs. American to tie the Delaware record for consecutive field goals made of 12 set by Allison Trapp vs. Hofstra on January 5, 2003.

Fisher also extended her consecutive three-point field goals made streak to five - one shy of the UD record - before misfiring in the second half vs. American. She now has four career 20-point efforts at Delaware and becomes the first UD player to net 25 or more points in consecutive games since current teammate Melissa Czorniewy dropped in 26 points vs. Towson and 28 vs. Northeastern in consecutive games last seasons.

Hayes scored the first basket of the game to give American a 2-1 lead 23 seconds into the contest, but Delaware answered by outscoring the Eagles 15-5 over the next five minutes to take control and were rarely threatened the rest of the night. The Hens took a double-digit lead at 23-13 on a Gineitis three-pointer with 10:27 left in the opening stanza and later used a 10-3 spurt to close the half and take a 42-22 advantage into halftime.

The Hens upped the lead to as much as 28 points at 56-28 on a layup by Gineitis with 13:14 remaining to cap an 11-3 run and never led by less than 14 points the rest of the way. Hayes was the only real offense for the Eagles as she scored 18 of her 29 points in the second stanza.
