PHILADELPHIA -- Tyresa Smith and Chrissy Fisher each recorded double-doubles and combined for 34 points and 22 rebounds as the University of Delaware women’s basketball squad continued to roll with a 66-52 non-league win over host LaSalle Tuesday night at Tom Gola Arena.

Smith scored a team-high 19 points and pulled 10 rebounds, Fisher added 15 points and 12 rebounds, and Kristina Gineitis (at right) came off the bench to reach career-highs with 11 points and five rebounds as Delaware (7-1) posted its sixth straight victory. The Hens received votes in both the Associated Press and USA Today/Coaches Top 25 polls for the second straight week this week.

LaSalle (7-1) suffered its first loss of the season despite 16 points and 12 rebounds from Carlene Hightower and 11 points and nine rebounds from Crista Ricketts. The Explorers were off to their best start since the 1988-89 squad opened the season winning its first 15 games.

Delaware, which defeated LaSalle for the fourth straight time, enjoyed a strong showing on the glass, pulling 43 rebounds, including 21 on the offensive side. The Blue Hens, who were coming off a 65-53 win over Drexel Sunday in which they committed a school-record low five turnovers, took care of the ball again and had just eight miscues on the night. The Hens overcame a tough shooting night in which they made just 23 of 66 field goal attempts but connected on 17 of 21 free throws.

LaSalle hit just 18 of 53 field goal attempts, including 5 of 19 from beyond the three-point line and committed 18 turnovers.

“The defense was sound tonight and we moved the ball well as a team in the second half offensively,” said Delaware head coach Tina Martin. “It was a great win on the road against an undefeated team."

The Blue Hens jumped out to a 20-9 lead in the first nine minutes of the game as Smith scored nine of her points and Alena Koshansky added five of her own. LaSalle answered with a 16-10 run to cut the lead to five at 30-25 heading into intermission.

Delaware pulled away early in the second half to put the game away. The Hens outscored LaSalle 9-2 over the first four minutes of the second half and pushed the lead back to 12 points at 39-27 with 15:52 remaining. Smith later hit five free throws to highlight a 9-0 run to extend the lead to 53-34 with 7:57 left and led by at least 11 points the rest of the way. LaSalle was held without a field goal for just over five minutes midway through the half as the Hens pulled away.
