NEWARK, DE -- Sophomore forward Tara Breske scored a career-high 21 points and pulled down seven rebounds as Bowling Green handed Delaware a 64-54 loss - its school-record ninth consecutive setback - in women's basketball action Friday night at the Bob Carpenter Center.

Sophomore guard Corinthia Benison (right) netted a career-high 16 points and added six boards to lead the Hens, who gave Bowling Green all it could handle until the Falcons pulled away late. Meanwhile, senior guard Kyle DeHaven matched her season-high with six steals, enough to move her past UD alum Tyresa Smith for fourth on the all-time CAA list with 345.

After Delaware took a 7-5 lead in the opening minutes, the Falcons responded with an 11-0 run punctuated by a Kate Achter steal and lay-in at the 13:28 mark. Delaware answered immediately, clawing back to within 22-20 when senior guard Kyle DeHaven sank a fadeaway jumper with 5:20 left in the period. That's as close as the Hens would get the rest of the half, as BGSU used a 10-1 spurt to take a 32-23 lead into the locker room.

The Blue Hens wouldn't go quietly, as they mounted a 10-0 charge to start the second half and took a 33-32 lead on a three-point play by Corinthia Benison with 16:39 remaining.

The teams traded baskets for a few minutes until sweet-shooting BGSU off-guard Lindsey Goldsberry canned a three and was fouled. Goldsberry converted the four-point play, and freshman guard Lauren Prochaska netted a three from the opposite corner on the Falcons' next possession to stretch her team's lead to 49-42 at the under-12 timeout.

UD went cold from the floor at that point, making just two of 11 field goal attempts over the final 12-plus minutes. Bowling Green, ranked second in the Mid-American Conference in scoring at 70.8 points per game, took full advantage of Delaware's struggles. The Falcons, usually a perimeter-oriented squad, repeatedly pounded the ball into Breske, who accounted for 10 of her team's final 15 points.

DeHaven finished with 12 points and five assists to go along with her six steals, while junior guard Ethlynne Thomas returned to the line-up after a two-game absence with seven points.

"We just have to learn how to finish," said twelfth-year UD head coach Tina Martin, whose team fell to 1-9 on the season. "We're making some bad mistakes down the stretch."

Delaware limited Achter, BGSU's leading scorer coming into the contest at 16.4 ppg., to five points, but she made up for it with 10 assists. Porchaska reached double figures for the ninth time in 10 games, pouring in 15 points to go along with seven rebounds.

UD continued to have success with its pressure defense, forcing 19 turnovers and making 11 steals, but the Hens coughed it up 18 times.

The Hens dropped their fifth straight home game, the team's longest skid at the BCC since they lost seven in a row in the 1996-97 season.
