VIENNA, Austria -- Former University of Delaware point guard Kyle Dehaven (at right), last year’s UD Alumni Association Team Most Valuable Player, is currently playing professionally for the Flying Foxes of Vienna in the FIBA Women’s EuroCup.
In just her rookie season, she is the starting point guard for the Foxes, who are competing in their second straight EuroCup after winning two games last year. In her first game on Thursday in the qualifying round against Gran Canaria of Spain, she pitched in four assists, four rebounds and three steals in the Foxes’ 80-62 loss.
The qualifying round consists of 20 teams who play home and away games to decide which teams advance to the Preliminary Round. The second of the Foxes’ qualifying round games will take place on Oct. 9.
In addition to the FIBA EuroCup, Dehaven will be playing in the FIBA CEWL and the Austrian AWBL with the Foxes.
Dehaven was one of the best defensive players to play at the University of Delaware. In just two years at UD after transferring from William & Mary, she set school records for steals in a season (133) and steals per game for a career (3.8). Her senior year, she led all NCAA Division I players with 4.6 steals per game, and her 232 career steals ranks her No. 5 all-time at UD.
An all-around player, she also led the Blue Hens in scoring (10.6 points per game), assists (105) and free throw-shooting percentage (82.6 percent) in 2007-08.
