RICHMOND, Va. -- University of Delaware sophomore guard Tesia Harris (at right) was named the Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 15-22, after leading the Blue Hens to a pair of victories over Villanova and Stony Brook, the league announced Tuesday.

Harris averaged 12.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game in those two contests, shooting 45.5 percent from the floor (10-of-22), 50 percent from long range (2-of-4) and 60 percent from the free throw line (3-of-5). She also contributed on defense with three blocks and team highs of six assists and four steals, as Delaware held Vilanova and Stony Brook under 50 points for the game.

The Dix Hills, N.Y. native posted 13 points, seven rebounds, five assists, two blocks and a steal during Sunday night’s 70-43 thrashing of Stony Brook. Harris shot 4 of 8 from the field including 2 of 3 from three-point range, and was also 3 of 4 from the foul line as Delaware extended its winning streak to five and advanced to play Loyola Marymount in the finals of the Loyola Marymount Holiday Classic in Los Angeles. She also contributed a career high five assists, seven rebounds, blocked two shots and had one steal.

Harris also went on to tie a career high with 21 points in the tournament finals on Monday night as the Blue Hens beat the host LMU, 66-60 to win the tournament. Harris again did it all for the Hens, adding six rebounds, four steals, one assist and one block. She was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player in a ceremony following the game.

Harris, who leads the team and ranks ninth in the CAA in scoring with 14.5 points per game, has reached double digits in each of the last five games and eclipsed the 20-point mark in one. She was the last Blue Hen player to do it before she did it again Monday night, as she scored 21 against Hofstra on Feb. 17, 2008. Among the CAA, she is also 20th in rebounding (6.3 rpg), sixth in free-throw percentage (.806), and 11th in blocked shots (1.2 bpg).

In just her sophomore year, Harris has already made 33 three-point field goals for her career. She ranks 14th all-time in career three-point field goals and is just one shy of tying Bridget McCarthy (1987-91).

Harris and the Blue Hens (8-3) return to action on Sunday, Jan. 4 when they open the CAA schedule by hosting Drexel at the Bob Carpenter Center at 1 p.m.
