NEWARK, Del. -- Tesia Harris led four University of Delaware scorers in double figures with 17 points, Corinthia Benison (top right) scored 14 points and posted a career-high seven steals, and Ariene Jenkins (bottom right) came back strong from a three-game layoff to lead the Blue Hens to a 64-53 Colonial Athletic Association women's basketball triumph over Northeastern Thursday night at the Bob Carpenter Center.

The game drew a spirited, season-high crowd of 2,550 to the Bob Carpenter Center as Delaware took part in its annual Women's Basketball Coaches Association Pink Zone game to raise awareness of breast cancer. Fans were urged to wear pink and UD players wore pink socks.

Harris overcame first half foul trouble to lead all players with 17 points and also pulled down six rebounds and Benison drained 8 of 9 free throws and offset seven turnovers with seven steals to lead the Hens (13-14, 5-11 CAA), who snapped a three-game losing streak. Jenkins, who missed the last three games due to a concussion, scored 12 points and Vanessa Kabongo chipped in with 10 points, all in the second half.

The win helped the Hens sweep the season series from the Huskies as Delaware downed NU for the eighth straight time overall and for the seventh straight time at the BCC.

Northeastern (10-17, 7-9 CAA), which lost its second straight game, got 14 points from Kim Carr while Kendra Walton came off the bench to add 10 points and eight rebounds. Husky point guard Jasmine Crew contributed nine points and a team-high nine rebounds.

Delaware overcame a five-point halftime deficit by outscoring the Huskies 40-24 in the second half when the Hens converted 13 of 26 shots from the field, drained 13 of 18 from the line and committed just four turnovers. Harris and Kabongo each scored 10 of their points in the second half as Delaware pulled away.

Northeastern took a 29-24 lead into halftime thanks to a 25-foot three-pointer just before the buzzer by Walton, but the Hens came out strong in the second half and tied the game at 35-35 on a Harris three-pointer with 14:31 left to play to cap an 11-6 run.

After two more leads changes and two ties, the Hens took the lead for good at 40-38 on a jumper by Kabongo with 12:39 left and a 6-0 run gave the Hens a 44-38 cushion that lasted the rest of the way.

A Walton three-pointer with 5:14 left followed by a free throw from Tiffany Crews cut the gap to 54-51 with 4:47 remaining, but Delaware responded with a 7-2 run, including a layup from Eva Riddick (five blocked shots) and two free throws each from Benison and Harris to go up 61-53 with 1:03 left.

Northeastern did not hit a field goal over the final five minutes as the Huskies missed their final eight field goal attempts and turned the ball over three times down the stretch.

Delaware will return to action Sunday as the Blue Hens host Georgia State in their final home game of the season at 1 p.m. at the BCC.
