Delaware to Face George Mason Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in First Round of CAA Women's Basketball Tournament

RICHMOND, Va. -- The University of Delaware women’s basketball team will be the No. 5 seed in the 2010 Virginia 529 College Savings Plan Colonial Athletic Association Tournament and will face No. 12 seed George Mason University Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in the first round.

The Blue Hens went 19-10 during the regular season and finished in a three-way tie for fourth place in the league standings with an 11-7 conference mark. The Patriots finished 10-19 overall and 12th in the league with an 3-15 conference record.

Other first round games on Thursday feature No. 8 seed Northeastern facing No. 9 seed Georgia State at noon, No. 7 seed Towson taking on No. 10 seed UNC Wilmington at 5 p.m., and No. 6 seed Hofstra versus No. 11 seed William & Mary at 7:30 p.m.

In Friday’s quarterfinals, top-seeded Old Dominion will face the winner of the Northeastern-Georgia State game at noon, while No. 4 Drexel will face the winner of the Delaware-George Mason contest at 2:30 p.m. In the 5 p.m. matchup, host No. 2 James Madison goes against the Towson-UNC Wilmington winner, before No. 3 VCU plays the Hofstra-William & Mary victor at 7:30 p.m.

The tournament semifinals are set for noon and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, with the championship game taking place at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 14. All games will be held in Harrisonburg, Va. at the JMU Convocation Center.

All 11 games of the CAA Women’s Basketball Championship will be available via various multimedia platforms. Thursday’s first-round games and Friday’s quarterfinal contests will be webstreamed on CAASports.com. Both semifinal games on Saturday will be televised by The Comcast Network and other CAA television affiliates. Comcast SportsNet will televise the CAA championship game on Sunday afternoon.

UD posted a pair of victories over Mason this season on Jan. 7 at the Patriot Center, 53-44, and on Feb. 8 at the Bob Carpenter Center, 67-63. The Patriots led both games at the half, but UD combined to outscore GMU, 72-47, in second-half action leading the Hens to victory.
