NEWARK, Del. -- Junior Eva Riddick and sophomore Kayla Miller were named the 2009-10 captains of the University of Delaware women’s basketball team recently announced by head coach Tina Martin.
Riddick (on left), a native of Rochester, N.Y., is a three-year member of the Blue Hen squad who is averaging 2.1 points and 3.6 rebounds per contest over the course of her career. The 6-3 forward has a potent 43.9 percent field goal conversion rate, having connected on 58 of 132 from the floor. Riddick, who ranks 14th in UD history having made 46 blocks over a course of 64 career games played, has also added 19 assists and 43 steals to the Blue Hens statistics. Riddick also received the UD Team Most Improved Player Award following the Hens’ 15-15 2008-09 season.
Miller (on right), a 5-8 guard, recently made her Delaware debut after transferring from George Washington University following the fall semester of 2008. The Wilmington, Del. native was forced to sit out the first nine games of the 2009-10 season due to NCAA transfer regulations. Eligible to play for the Blue Hens beginning on December 22 against Buffalo, Miller has started each of the four games since. She averages 4.3 points and 1.8 rebounds per game and leads the Hens by averaging 3.75 assists per contest. Miller has tallied 17 points, 7 rebounds, 15 assists and five steals to help the Blue and Gold to a 3-1 record when contributing during games.
Delaware is 9-4 on the season and improved to 1-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association with a 53-44 road win at George Mason University on Thursday. The Hens look to capture their 100th regular season CAA victory when they travel to Northeastern University on Sunday, Jan. 10 for a 2 p.m. game against the Huskies.
