RICHMOND, Va. – University of Delaware freshman women’s basketball sensation Elena Delle Donne has been selected as the Rookie of the Week by the Colonial Athletic Association for the 10th time this season after leading the Blue Hens to a 59-41 victory over Hofstra on Wednesday.

Delle Donne led the Blue Hens as she notched her 12th double-double of the season, while tallying a game-high 27 points in the win to go along with 10 rebounds. Delle Donne swatted away a career-high seven blocks and swished every one of Delaware’s free throws made on the evening (16-of-23) after returning from a two-game hiatus with an ankle injury. She completed the night shooting 16-of-17 from the charity stripe and added one steal.

Delle Donne sits second in the nation in scoring while also ranking third in free-throw percentage, 17th in three-point field goal percentage, 23rd in blocked shots per game, 49th in rebounds per game, 50th in field goal percentage, and 77th in three-point field goals per game. The Wilmington, Del. native also leads the nation having scored 41.2 percent of her teams’ points in games in which she has played. She has scored 673 of the Hens’ 1,634 points scored in her 25 active games.

Delle Donne stands as the only player in the nation to rank in the top 50 in each of the three shooting percentages: field goals (50th), three-pointers (17th) and free throws (3rd).

Delle Donne ranks among the individual leaders in the league in scoring (1st, 26.9 ppg), free throw percentage (1st, 91.5%), defensive rebounds (1st, 6.6 rpg), three-point field goal percentage (1st, 43.5%), minutes played (1st, 37.8 mpg), blocked shots (2nd, 2.3 bpg), rebounding (2nd, 9.2 rpg), three-point field goals made (2nd, 2.3 3-pg), and field goal percentage (3rd, 49.6%).

Towson’s Shanae Baker-Brice and William & Mary’s Taysha Pye shared the CAA Player of the Week honors.

Delaware will next return to action on Thursday, March 11 when they take on George Mason University in the first round of the 2010 CAA Tournament.
