RICHMOND, Va. -- University of Delaware freshman women’s basketball player Elena Delle Donne has been selected as the Co-player and Rookie of the Week by the Colonial Athletic Association after leading the Blue Hens to a pair of league victories this past week.

Delle Donne, a forward/guard Naismith National Player of the Year candidate, lead Delaware with a duo of double-doubles to help the Hens to road victories over George Mason University on Thursday and Northeastern on Sunday.

In a 53-44 triumph over Mason, the 6-5 forward/guard, led all scorers shooting 7 of 11 from the field and 9 of 11 from the charity stripe to tally 25 points, while also adding a team-high 11 boards. Delle Donne put up 13 points in the second frame to help Delaware, who had a 27-20 deficit at intermission, to outscore the Patriots, 33-17, in the second stint for the Hens’ first conference victory of the season.

The Wilmington, Del. native was held to just four points in the first half at the helm of the Huskies, but Delle Donne erupted to score 15 additional points in the second, all while pulling down a game-high 16 rebounds en route to victory. Delle Donne shot a perfect 10-for-10 from the foul line to help Delaware keep a step ahead of Northeastern and win, 61-53, and earn its 100th regular season CAA victory since joining the league in 2001-02.

Delle Donne currently ranks fourth in the nation in scoring, 17th in free-throw percentage, 30th in double-doubles, 35th in three-point field goal percentage, 36th in rebounds per game, and 54th in field goal percentage.

Delle Donne has also helped UD to rank atop the conference in rebounding defense, as the Hens have held their opponents to just 34.2 rebounds per game. Delle Donne alone ranks among the individual leaders in rebounding (1st, 9.6 rpg), defensive rebounds (1st, 7.0 rpg), minutes played (1st, 37.7 mpg), scoring (2nd, 24.7 ppg), free throw percentage (2nd, 88.5%), blocked shots (3rd, 1.5 bpg), three-point field goal percentage (5th, 43.9%), field goal percentage (5th, 50.5%), and three-point field goals made (6th, 2.1 3-pg).

Virginia Commonwealth University’s D’Andra Moss joined Delle Donne in receiving Co-player of the week accolades.

The Hens next take on the Seahawks of UNC Wilmington on Thursday, Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Bob Carpenter Center.
