RICHMOND, Va. -- University of Delaware freshman women’s basketball sensation Elena Delle Donne has been selected as the Rookie of the Week by the Colonial Athletic Association for the sixth time this season after leading the Blue Hens to a 2-0 week. Delle Donne has also twice been named the CAA Player of the Week.

Delle Donne (at right), a forward/guard Naismith National Player of the Year and Wooden Award Midseason Top 20 candidate, guided the Blue Hens to a pair of home victories last week as she averaged a double-double with 24.5 points and 12.0 rebounds per outing. The rookie chipped in 23 points and nine rebounds in the convincing 84-55 win over William & Mary, before scoring 26 points and grabbing 15 rebounds for her ninth career double-double in UD’s 67-63 victory over George Mason. The freshman forward/guard completed the week with two assists, four blocks, and four steals. She shot 44.7 percent (17-of-38) from the field and 93.3 percent (14-of-15) from the free throw line to improve her league-best season percentage (91.5 ft), which ranks fifth in the nation.

Delle Donne currently ranks second in the nation in scoring, fifth in free-throw percentage, 24th in three-point field goal percentage, 47th in field goal percentage, 61st in rebounds per game, 64th in blocked shots per game, and 88th in three-point field goals per game. The Wilmington, Del. native also leads the nation having scored 39.2 percent of her teams’ points in games in which she has played. She has scored 512 of the Hens’ 1,307points scored in her 20 active games.

Delle Donne stands as the only player in the nation to rank in the top 50 in each of the three shooting percentages: field goals (47th), three-pointers (24th) and free throws (5th).

Delle Donne ranks among the individual leaders in the league in scoring (1st, 25.6 ppg), rebounding (1st, 9.1 rpg), free throw percentage (1st, 91.5%), defensive rebounds (1st, 6.2 rpg), minutes played (2nd, 37.5 mpg), blocked shots (2nd, 1.7 bpg), three-point field goal percentage (3rd, 43.3%), field goal percentage (3rd, 50.4%), three-point field goals made (5th, 2.1 3-pg), and offensive rebounds (7th, 2.9 rpg).

Virginia Commonwealth’s Kita Waller and Towson’s Shanae Baker-Brice shared the Player of the Week honor.

The Hens next travel to league-leading Old Dominion for a 7 p.m. game on Thursday, Feb. 11.
