NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware women’s basketball team has gotten involved with social networking sites to help fans and friends of the program to follow along with the team.

Available through www.bluehens.com/womens_baketball.html the team welcomes people to become a fan of University of Delaware women’s basketball on Facebook and encourages those on Twitter to follow head coach Tina Martin under the alias of UDCoachMartin. Buttons below the white box that profiles the main and most recent six stories on the women's basketball Web site direct visitors to the specific sites.

The team Facebook page is peppered with photos, videos and updates, while Martin frequently tweets about the status of her team.

Founded in February, 2004, Facebook is a social utility that helps people communicate more efficiently with their friends, family and coworkers. The company develops technologies that facilitate the sharing of information through the social graph, the digital mapping of people’s real-world social connections. Anyone can sign up for Facebook and interact with the people they know in a trusted environment.

Twitter is a privately funded startup with offices in the SoMA neighborhood of San Francisco. Started as a side project in March, 2006, Twitter has grown into a real-time short messaging service that works over multiple networks and devices. In countries all around the world, people follow the sources most relevant to them and access information via Twitter as it happens -- from breaking world news to updates from friends.
