TULSA, Okla. -- University of Delaware women’s rowers Meredith Rubin, Stephanie Lynch, and Nicolette Lotrionte (at right) have been honored on the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association National Scholar-Athlete squad.

The three were among 324 NCAA Division I student-athletes throughout the nation who were honored. (Manchester West High School), and Lotrionte is a senior political science, journalism, and Italian studies major from Bronx, N.Y. (Ursuline School).

The three helped lead the Blue Hen and head coach Laura Slice to a third place team finish at the Colonial Athletic Association championships back in April.

Rubin and Lynch were members of the UD Varsity Eights crew and led the Blue Hens to a second place finish at the Kerr Cup, a fourth place showing at the CAA Championships, a sixth place finish at the Knecht Cup, a fifth place showing in the semifinals at the Dad Vail Regatta, and a third place finish in their heat at the Murphy Cup. Delaware also placed third in a tri-meet vs. Saint Joseph’s to open the season.

Lotrionte was a member of the Second Varsity Eights crew that placed third at the CAA championships, fourth at the Kerr Cup, and sixth at the Murphy Cup. The group also placed fifth in its heat at the Knecht Cup and eighth in its heat at the Dad Vail Regatta.

She served as team captain and also earned the University’s Mary Ann Hitchens Award, which is presented to the senior student-athletes who exemplifies the characteristics of hard work, dedication, fairness, and striving for excellence that was Hitchens’ hallmark during her recent career as a head coach and athletics administrator at UD.
