Blue Hen Rowers Compete at Navy, Princeton, Head of the Occoquan Regattas During Fall Exhibition Season

NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware women’s rowing team competed in the Navy Day Regatta, Princeton Chase and Head of the Occoquan Regatta as the Blue Hens closed their 2009 fall exhibition schedule.

At the Navy Day Regatta on October 10, the Delaware Novice Eights boat of coxswain Emily Nassi, Holly Dodge, Sarah Rosenberg, Julia Cagney, Alex Smart, Alyssa Hoffman, Lindsey Morris, Courtney Welch and Shelby Johantgen finished first out of nine boats in 16:21.64.

The Varsity Eights team of coxswain Hillary Levitz, Meredith Rubin (at right), Darra Finnerty, Regine Adrien, Mary Grace Maggiano, Katelyn Huber, Rachael Conway, Christine McGrath, and Steph Lynch placed seventh out of 20 boats in 14:38.18.

The Varsity Fours boat of coxswain Marra Green, Valerie Glace, Jaime Hedrick, Elyse Palmer and Laura Wertman finished in 17:17.76 to place 11th out of 19 boats.

At the Princeton Chase on October 25, the UD Varsity Eights “A” boat of coxswain Marra Green, Darra Finnerty, Katelyn Huber, Mary Grace Maggiano, Regine Adrien, Rachael Conway, Ashley Maguire, Steph Lynch, and Lauren Kanaskie finished 40th in 16:55.825. The “B” boat of coxswain Hillary Levitz, Clare Wardwell, Liz Cretekos, Virginia Hall, Lauren Kolsky, Courtney Williams, Erica Morgan, Valerie Glace, and Mary Elizabeth Scholz was 52nd in 17:46.246.

The Varsity Fours “A” boat of coxswain Avery Griffin, Laura Wertman, Kristen Endres, Virginia Hall, and Tori Drach placed 35th in 18:46.888 while the “B” boat of conswain Christa Kurman, Elyse Palmer, Leanna Colubriale, Brittany Hayes, and Jaime Hedrick finished 41st in 19:12.010.

At the Head of the Occoquan Regatta on October 31, the Delaware Novice Eights “A” boat finished the fall season undefeated by winning its race in 19:36.86. The “A” boat finished ahead of Duke, two Georgetown boats, and Navy, while the UD “B” boat of coxswain Arielle Farrell, Lianne Previti, Ashley Lavery, Bethany Callaway, Ally Crossman, Brenna Thommen, Allison Adams, Christine Howard, and Roxana Bustamante was sixth in 21:04.45.

The Blue Hen Varsity Eights “A” boat of coxswain Avery Griffin, Rubin, Finnerty, Adrien, Conway, Huber, Maggiano, Lauren Kanaskie, and Lynch finished third in 18:00.25, behind Duke in 17:36.95 and Navy in 17:43.72.

The UD Varsity Eights “B” boat of coxswain Green, Clare Wardwell, Liz Cretekos, Ashley Maguire, Lauren Kolsky, Courtney Williams, Erica Morgan, Glace and Mary Elizabeth Scholz finished in 17th place with a time of 19:41.96.

The Delaware Varsity Fours “A” boat of coxswain Levitz, Wertman, Kristen Endres, Virginia Hall and Tori Drach finished fifth in its race in 20:28.36.

The “C” boat of coxswain Rachel Waylett, Glace, Sarah Baillie and Kaitlin Roehrer was 14th in 21:22.29, while the “B” boat of coxswain Christa Kurman, Palmer, Leanna Colubriale, Brittany Hayes, and Hedrick came in 24th in 21:58.89.

Duke “A” won the race in 19:26.23, finishing ahead of Duke “B” in 19:42.14, West Virginia in 19:59.41, and Georgetown in 20:00.64.

Delaware opens its 2010 spring season on March 13 when the Blue Hens take on Saint Joseph’s in Philadelphia.
