NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware women’s rowing team opened the fall exhibition season Sept. 26 by capturing the each of the three events contested in a tri-meet with Saint Joseph’s and Temple on the Christina River.

Conditions were extremely rough at the start and start line had to be moved to a more protected area on the course. The races were also shortened by 500 meters to a course length approximately 3,500 meters long.

Delaware’s Varsity Eights boat tied teams from Saint Joseph’s and Temple with an estimated time of 15:04.4. The Blue Hens B boat also placed sixth in the event.

The Blue Hens captured the Novice Eights competition as the team of coxswain Emily Nassi, Holly Dodge, Sarah Rosenberg, Julia Cagney, Alex Smart, Alyssa Hoffman, Lindsey Morris, Courtney Welch, and Shelby Johantgen raced to a time of 15:33.8, nearly two minutes better than runner-up Saint Joseph’s (17:10.6).

Delaware placed three crews in the Varsity Fours with the A team finishing first in a time of 16:53.5, the B team finishing second in 17:14.8, and the C team placing fifth in 19:20. 1

The team will continue exhibition action this Saturday at the Navy Regatta on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia.
