Richard Wilson begins his second season on the University of Delaware women's rowing staff as a graduate assistant coach in 2008-09 and will work primarily with the novice team.

Wilson, 43, came to Delaware with an impressive rowing background as both an athlete and as a coach. A native of Buffalo, NY, he earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1987 and received his MBA in corporate finance from the University of Dallas (TX) in 1994. He will be working on a master’s degree in exercise physiology at Delaware.

As a rower, he earned a gold medal at the Ontario Championships in 1981 while attending Ridley College High School, competed two seasons at the University of Pennsylvania in 1983-84, captured one gold medal as a member of West Side Rowing Club in Buffalo, NY in 2004, won two Canadian Henley championships in 1982-83 as a member of the St. Catharines Rowing Club, and also competed for the Vesper Boat Club in Philadelphia in 1986-87.

As a coach, Wilson served three seasons as coach of the West Side High School boy’s program in Buffalo and started the men’s and women’s rowing club program at Niagara (NY) University in 2003, serving until the fall of 2005. While at Niagara, his teams posted consistent top 10 finishes at various regattas and his women’s Novice Fours team placed sixth at Metro Atlantic Athletic Association Championships in 2005. He is a Rowing Canada Level 2 certfied coach and is currently working on his Level 3 certification.

He most recently worked as a real estate agent with Hunt Commercial Real Estate in Buffalo but has previously worked as an credit analyst, underwriter, stock analyst, and financial planner in the Chicago and Buffalo areas and served as an adjunct professor in the College of Business Administration at Niagara University in 2003. In 1990-92, he served as a legislative assistant to United States Senator and current Presidential candidate John McCain.
