Univ. of Delaware Rowers Take Two Seconds at Knecht Cup

 

CAMDEN, NJ -- The University of Delaware women's rowing team advanced to the finals in all five races and brought home two second place finishes at the Knecht Cup meet Saturday on the Cooper River.

The Blue Hens, competing in just their second official meet since becoming Delaware's 23rd varsity sport, placed second in the Novice Lightweight Eight race and in the Novice Heavyweight Eight race, placed third in the Novice Heavyweight Fours, fourth in the Varsity Heavyweight Eights, and fifth in the Varsity Lightweight Fours.

The Novice Lightweight Eight team of Michelle Peto, Danielle Stevens, Susan Krause, Cathy Visintainer, Rebecca Todd, Nicole Mitchell, Stacie Konrad, Dana Hammond, and Courtney Pierrot rowed to a time of 7:56, just two seconds behind winner Villanova.

The Novice Heavyweight Eights team of Meredith Kaplan, Ashleigh Rankin, Becky Knieriem, Frances O'Brien, Marnie Merriam, Emily Drury, Heather Bieler, Maegan Weimar, and Allison Pyne was second in a time of 7:21, just six seconds slower than champion Massachusetts.

The Novice Heavyweight Fours team of Jordan Chon, Jessica Ayers, Geri Sieracki, Melanie Mecca, and Kristin Biermann was third in a time of 8:52 behind Stockton State and Duquesne. The Varsity Heavyweight Eights team of Jenn O'Keefe, Kristin Vander Els, Liz White, Courtney Forrester, Mo Daley, Gayle Dornan, Karen Hommer, Amanda Duley, and Gail Orem was fourth in 7:16 behind Villanova, Massachusetts, and Fordham.

The Varsity Lightweight Fours team of Nicole Palmer, Erica Chisholm, Whitney McCormick, and Lisa Trivisone was fifth in a time of 8:40.
