DELAWARE COMPETES IN FIRST EVER WOMEN’S ROWING MEET

 

OCCOQUAN, VA – The University of Delaware Novice Eights B team captured first place to highlight the first ever official event for the Blue Hen women’s rowing team Sunday at the Occoquan Sprints.

The Blue Hens, coached by Amanda Wemple and competing in their first varsity season, competed in five races at the event.

The Novice Eight B team of Meredith Kaplan, Danielle Stevens, Susan Krause, Ashleigh Rankin, Rebecca Todd, Cathy Visintainer, Kristin Biremann, Courtney Perrot, and Geri Sieracki rowed to a winning time of 8 minutes and 10 seconds to edge William & Mary by 17 seconds.

Other finishes for the Blue Hens was a second place finish by the Novice Eights A team of Michelle Peto, Nicole Mitchell, Becky Knieriem, Frances O’Brien, Marnie Merriam, Emily Drury, Heather Bieler, Meagan Weimar, and Allison Pyne in a time of 8:21. William & Mary won the race.

Also, the Varsity Four team of Nicole Palmer, Laurie Patria, Erica Chisholm, Whitney McCormick, and Lisa Trivisone was fourth in 8:31, the Novice Four team of Jordan Chon, Georgia Basso, Laura Gordon, Dana Hammond, and Stacie Konrad was sixth in 9:06, and the Varsity Eight team of Jenn O’Keefe, Kristin Vander Els, Gail Orem, Courtney Forrester, Mo Daley, Gayle Dornan, Karen Hommer, Amanda Duley, and Liz White was sixth in 7:17.
