PHILADELPHIA -- The University of Delaware women's rowing team won all five races to dominate the action at the Kerr Cup Regatta Saturday afternoon on the Schuylkill River. The Blue Hens captured first place finishes in the Novice Fours, Junior Varsity Eights, Novice Eights, Lightweight Eights, and Heavyweight Eights to post a perfect day. No team standings were held. The Novice Four team of Kat Ahern, Erin O'Leary, Erinn Batykefer, Janice Brown, and Kate McCullough won its event in 7:37, finishing ahead of Franklin & Marshall, Geneseo, and Stockton. The Junior Varsity Eight squad of Lauren Baker, Jess Ayers, Elizabeth McGarry, Laura McDonald, Maggie Bartholomew, Bizzy Schultz, Kara Sylvis, Nicole Ferrari, and Logan Thompson finished first in 7:02, besting Bryn Mawr (7:10), Drexel (7:11), and Geneseo (7:31). Delaware fielded two teams in the Novice Eight event. The "A" squad of Alli Garwood, Laura Muto, Kylie Campbell, Elizabeth Harris, Alsion Conway, Elizabeth McInturff, Dawn Hussnatter, Leanna Ferrand, and Erin Quimby won the event with a time of 7:05. The "B" team of Melissa Shields, Andrea Placke, Liz Florin, Michelle Whalen, Danah O'Connor, Janet Hoyler, Dana Lohr, Stef lazorick, and Dawnyel Boucek finished third in 7:28. Drexel placed second in 7:26, and Virginia Tech was fourth in 8:02. The Lightweight eight team of Dana Hammond, Lisa Hardy, Jen Buckley, Susan Krause, Gail Orem, Denise Burke, Tory Yanakos, Whitney McCormick, and Fay Schmid won its race in 6:55, finishing in front of Mercyhurst (6:56) and Virginia Tech (7:06). The Heavyweight Eight team of Sarah Rusk, Jess Colpo, Lauren Heller, Betsy Ferry, Jen Suminski, Lissa Kutz, Karen Hommer, Gayle Dornan, and Amanda Duley completed Delaware's sweep by winning its race in 6:38, beating Drexel (6:42) and Brin Mawr (6:49). Delaware will return to action May 5 when the Blue Hens visit Navy. |
