OAK RIDGE, TN &endash; The
University of Delaware womens rowing team posted three
top six finishes at the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing
Association Championships Sunday afternoon.
The Blue Hen Varsity Heavyweight Eights
and Novice Heavyweight Eights each placed fourth in their
events while the Junior Varsity Lightweight Eights, rowing
in the junior varsity event, placed sixth
overall.
The Varsity Heavyweight Eights team of
Sarah Rusk, Jess Colpo, Lauren Heller, Betsy Ferry, Jen
Suminski, Lissa Kutz, Karen Hommer, Gayle Dornan, and Amanda
Duley raced to a time of 7:16.4 to place fourth in the
petite final and 10th overall out of 30 teams. North
Carolina won the petite final in (7:10.0) followed by
Cincinnati (7:12.6), and Central Florida
(7:12.89).
The Novice Heavyweight Eights team of
Alli Garwood, Laura Muto, Kylie Campbell, Elizabeth
Harris, Alison Conway, Elizabeth McInturff, Dawn Hussnatter,
Leanna Ferrand, and Erin Quimby placed fourth out of 30
teams with a time of 7:21.5 behind North Carolina (7:11.7),
Duke (7:16.8), and Clemson (7:19.8).
The Delaware Junior Varsity Lightweight
Eights squad of Dana Hammond, Lisa Hardy, Jen Buckley,
Susan Krause, Gail Orem, Denise Burke, Tory Yanakos, Whitney
McCormick, and Fay Schmid placed sixth out of 12 teams
in a time of 7:24.1 behind Clemson (7:02.8), Tennessee,
North Carolina, Coastal Carolina, and Cincinnati.
Delaware also competed at the Murphy Cup
Regatta Saturday on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia. In
that meet, the Hens won the Novice Fours in a time of 8:01
while the Varsity Heavyweight Eights placed fifth in their
heat (7:29) but did not make the finals. The Delaware Novice
Heavyweight Eights placed sixth in its heat but did not make
the finals.
The Hens Novice Fours team
consisted of Kat Ahern, Erin OLeary, Erinn
Batykefer, Janice Brown, and Kate McCullough.
