University of
Massachusetts Quad Meet
April 7, 2001 at Connecticut River
NORTHAMPTON, MA -- The University
of Delaware women's rowing team won four of the six events
in a four-way meet hosted by the University of Massachusetts
Saturday afternoon on the Connecticut River.
The Blue Hens captured the Novice Fours
race, both Novice Eights races, and the Varsity Lightweight
Eight competition to lead the field that included host
Massachusetts, Boston College, and Connecticut. The Hens
also placed third in the Varsity Heavyweight Eights and
fourth in the Junior Varsity Eights races.
In the Novice Fours, Delaware's team of
Kat Ahern, Erin O'Leary, Erinn Batykefer, Janice
Brown, and Kate McCullough rowed to a winning
time of 7:26.1 to defeat Connecticut (7:34.2) and
Massachusetts (7:53.2).
In the Varsity Lightweight Eights,
Delaware team of Dana Hammond, Lisa Hardy, Jen Buckley,
Susan Krause, Tory Yanakos, Denise Burke, Fay Schmid,
Whitney McCormick, and Dana Lohr raced to a time
of 6:40.1 to defeat Massachusetts (6:41.5).
In the Novice Eights first race,
Delaware's team of Alli Garwood, Laura Muto, Kylie
Campbell, Elizabeth Harris, Alison Conway, Elizabeth
McInturff, Dawn Hussnatter, Leanna Ferrand, and Erin
Quimby won with a time of 6:38.0. Boston College was
second in 6:44.4 followed by Massachusetts (6:48.0) and
Connecticut (7:49.6).
In the Novice Eights second race,
Delaware won with a time of 7:00.01 to outdistance
Massachusetts (7:04.3) and Boston College (7:19.5).
Delaware's team was made up of Melissa Shields, Andrea
Placke, Liz Florin, Michelle Whalen, Danah O'Connor, Janet
Hoyler, Kara Sylvis, Stef Lazorick, and Dawnyel
Boucek.
In the Varsity Heavyweight Eights, Boston
College won with a time of 6:13.7 ahead of Massachusetts
(6:14.3), Delaware (6:30.5), and Connecticut (6:37.4). The
Blue Hens' team was comprised of Sarah Rusk, Jess Colpo,
Lauren Heller, Betsy Ferry, Jen Suminski, Lissa Kutz, Karen
Hommer, Gayle Dornan, and Amanda
Duley.
In the Junior Varsity Eights,
Massachusetts A won with a time of 6:27.3 followed by Boston
College (6:34.8), Massachusetts B (6:42.1), Delaware
(6:45.0), and Connecticut (6:54.0). Delaware's team included
Lauren Baker, Gail Orem, Jess Ayers, Maggie Bartholomew,
Bizzy Schultz, Elizabeth McGarry, Laura McDonald, Logan
Thompson, and Nicole Ferrari.
Delaware will next compete at the SIRA
Championships April 21-22 at Oak Ridge,
Tennessee.
