CHERRY HILL, NJ -- The University of Delaware Lightweight Varsity Eights team closed out the 2002 season for the Blue Hen women's rowing team by winning the consolation final race and placing seventh overall at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships Saturday on the Cooper River.

Delaware's team of Dana Hammond, Denise Burke, Fay Schmid, Laura Muto, Emily McElwain, Susan Krause, Tory Yanakos, Stefanie Lazorick, and Lyra Sawzin rowed to a time of 6:47.7 to win the consolation final and earn a seventh place finish for the second straight year.

The national meet features the top Lightweight Varsity Eights teams in the nation. The NCAA championships, which will be held next week in Indianapolis, IN, includes only Heavyweight teams.

Delaware won the consolation finals race with a time of 6:47.7, finishing ahead of Villanova (6:49.9), Georgetown (6:59.1), and Rhode Island (7:03.5).

The championships marked the final competition of the 2001-2002 season for all University of Delaware athletics teams.
