Blue Hens
Advance Two to Finals; Earn Two Top Five
Finishes
CHERRY HILL, NJ -- The University
of Delaware women's rowing team advanced two teams to the
finals and had two top five finishes at the Knecht Cup meet
Saturday on the Cooper River.
Delaware's Junior Varsity Eights and
Lightweight Eights both advanced to the finals to highlight
the day for the Blue Hens. Delaware teams also competed in
the Varsity Fours, Novice Eights, Lightweight Fours, and
Varsity Eights races but did not advance out of the
trials.
The Blue Hens' top finish was in the
Junior Varsity Eights where the UD team placed third overall
with a time of 7:14.7. The University of Kansas "A" team
took first place with a time of 7:05.5 followed by
Massachusetts (7:13.0), Delaware, Kansas "B", North
Carolina, and Boston College.
Also making it to the finals was the UD
Lightweight Eights team that placed fourth overall with a
time of 7:10.5. Wisconsin won the race in a time of 6:52.1
followed by Radcliffe (6:59.2), Princeton (7:00.3),
Delaware, Georgetown, and Rhode Island.
The Delaware Varsity Eights team placed
second in its heat with a time of 6:54.8, just 1.1 second
behind winner Massachusetts (6:49.3). Central Florida was
third followed by Fordham and Duquesne.
The Hens placed third in the Lightweight
Fours with a time of 8:34.5, trailing champion Wisconsin
(8:01.10) and runner-up Franklin & Marshall
(8:21.1).
In the Novice Eights trials, Delaware
placed fourth with a time of 7:22.5 behind winner
Massachusetts (7:11.5), runner-up Connecticut (7:21.0), and
third place finisher Army (7:21.6). Delaware placed ahead of
Bucknell and Duquesne.
The Delaware Varsity Fours team placed
fourth in its heat with a time of 8:14.6, trailing winner
Dowling (7:58.0), runner-up Massachusetts (8:02.2), and
third place finisher Marist (8:03.1).
Delaware will continue action April 20-21
at the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association
Championships at Oak Ridge, TN.
