Delaware Wins
Unofficial CAA Title For Second Straight
Year
PHILADELPHIA- The University of
Delaware women's rowing team captured three races and won
the team title for the second straight year at the 37th
annual Kerr Cup Regatta Saturday on the Schuylkill
River.
The Delaware women won the team title for
the regatta, which also serve as the unofficial Colonial
Athletic Association championship. The championship is not
an official one because the CAA does not sponsor the sport.
Delaware posted 55 team points followed
by Drexel 45), George Mason (42), and William & Mary
(22).
Blue Hen teams captured the Novice
Eights, Second Eights, and Lightweight Eights events and
placed second in the Varsity Eights and Varsity Fours.
Delaware teams also placed second, third, and fourth in the
Varsity Fours.
The Novice Eights team consisted of
Sarah Mazurkevich, Jenna Darrenkamp, Leslie Forsyth,
Katherine Reiner, Val Schuster, Cindy Dudzinski, Kate
Sianni, Lane Kohl, and Becca Bauer. Delaware
posted a time of 7:01.5 to outdistance William & Mary
(7:06.7), George Mason (7:11.9), and Drexel
(7:16.4).
The Second Eights team consisted of
Nicole Lombardi, Elizabeth Harris, Lisa Hardy, Jess
Colpo, Alison Conway, Andrea Placke, Janice Brown, Laura
McDonald, and Elizabeth McGarry. The Hens posted
a time of 6:50.0 to win the event, downing Drexel (7:01.4)
and George Mason (7:15.4).
The Hens' Lightweight Eights team of
Carolyn Serey, Denise Burke, Dana Lohr, Laura Muto, Emily
McElwain, Stef Lazorick, Tory Yanakos, Lyra Sawzin,
and Susan Carbine won in a time of 6:49.6, besting
George Mason (7:15.4).
The Heavyweight Varsity Eights team
posted a time of 6:44.4 to place second behind Drexel
(6:41.7). George Mason was third in 6:51.1 followed by
William & Mary in 6:52.6. Delaware's team included
Alli Garwood, Megan Batykefer, Elizabeth McInturff, Kylie
Campbell, Betsy Ferry Danah O'Connor, Lissa Kutz, Dawn
Hussnatter, and Leanna Ferrand.
In the Varsity Fours competition,
Delaware entered three teams, placing all three behind
winner George Mason (7:41.1). Delaware's top team of Kat
Campagnini, Nicole Ferrari, Jen Suminski, Maureen
Gillen, and Liz Florin was second in 7:47.2.
Delaware' s Novice Fours "A" team of Jamie Hartnett,
Jamie Schoeonwald, Jessica Kostick, Courtney Maggiulli,
and Cathy Savarese was third in a time of 7:51.8, and
the Novice "B" team of Jill Goldman, Steph Miller, Leah
Conway, Nicole Neidig, and Jen Vattimo was fourth
in 8:53.2.
Delaware will next compete May 9-10 at
the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia.
