Delaware
Advances to Finals in Six of Seven
Events
PHILADELPHIA -- The University
of Delaware women's rowing team advanced six of seven crews
to the finals led by a first place finish by the Junior
Varsity Eights team at the Murphy Cup Saturday on the
Schuylkill River.
The Junior Varsity Eights team of
Nicole Lombardi, Elizabeth Harris, Lisa Hardy, Jess
Colpo, Alison Conway, Andrea Placke, Janice Brown, Laura
McDonald, and Elizabeth McGarry rowed to a time
of 6:48.9 to claim the title, edging runner-up Villanova
(7:01.4). Fordham was third, Saint Joseph's fourth, Drexel
fifth, and Bryn Mawr sixth.
Also for the Hens, the Novice Fours A
team placed second, the Novice Eights placed second, the
Lightweight Eights team placed third, the Novice Fours B
team placed sixth, and the Varsity Heavyweights Eights
advanced to the finals with a third place finish in its heat
but the results of the finals were unofficial and still
under review due to a protest by one of the competing teams.
The Varsity Fours team was the only Delaware squad that did
not advance to the finals as it placed fourth in its heat
Friday.
In the Novice Fours race, Delaware's A
team of Jamie Hartnett, Jamie Schoeonwald, Jessica
Kostick, Courtney Maggiulli, and Cathy Savarese
rowed to a time of 7:48.5 to place second. Johns Hopkins won
the race with a time of 7:43.1 while Saint Joseph's was
third (8:02.1), Franklin and Marshall was fourth (8:05.0),
Bucknell was fifth (8:20.1), and Delaware's B team of
Jill Goldman, Steph Miller, Leah Conway, Nicole
Neidig, and Jen Vattimo was sixth (8:20.5).
In the Novice Eights race, Saint Joseph's
claimed first place with a time of 6:48.5 while Delaware's
team of Sarah Mazurkevich, Jenna Darrenkamp, Leslie
Forsyth, Katherine Reiner, Val Schuster, Cindy Dudzinski,
Kate Sianni, Lane Kohl, and Becca Bauer was
second in a time of 6:59.2. Bucknell was third followed by
Temple, Lehigh, and Rutgers.
In the Lightweight Eights race, Bucknell
won in a time of 6:46.6 while Villanova was second in
6:51.3. Delaware's team of Carolyn Serey, Denise Burke,
Dana Lohr, Laura Muto, Emily McElwain, Stef Lazorick, Tory
Yanakos, Lyra Sawzin, and Susan Carbine was third
in 6:51.6.
In the Varsity Heavyweight Eights
competition, Delaware's team of Alli Garwood, Megan
Batykefer, Elizabeth McInturff, Kylie Campbell, Betsy Ferry,
Danah O'Connor, Lissa Kutz, Dawn Hussnatter, and
Leanna Ferrand posted a time of 6:40.4 to place third
in its heat and advance to the finals. Saint Joseph's won
the heat in 6:32.9 while Lehigh was second in 6:37.6. Saint
Joseph's, Drexel, Delaware, Drake, Temple, Fordham, and
Lehigh all advanced to the finals.
Delaware's Varsity Fours team of Kat
Campagnini, Nicole Ferrari, Jen Suminski, Maureen Gillen,
and Liz Florin placed fourth in its heat with a time of
7:52.6. La Salle won the heat in 7:22.2 followed by
Villanova, Delaware, and Geneseo State.
