 Blue Hens Win Two Races, Place Second in Two Others in Dual Meet

 

LEWISBURG, PA -- The University of Delaware women's rowing team won two races and took second place in two others in a dual meet with host Bucknell Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Hens, participating in their third event of the season, won the Novice Eights and Second Novice Eights races and placed second in both the Varsity Eights A and Varsity Eights B races.

Delaware won the Novice Eights race in a time of 5:45, besting Bucknell by nine seconds. Delaware's team consisted of Alison Harrington, Rachel Thomas, Nicky Bradley, Elizabeth Martin, Lisa Karwoski, Betsy Seeger, Laura Beaufort, Maria Bellumori, and Nikki Jackowsky.

In the Second Novice Eights race, Delaware's team of Nic Suto, Jenn Boutin, Lynn Hamski, Katie Broullire, Stacey Walczak, Laura Belfi, Lindsay Wood, Christina Stanley, and Brie Sheppard raced to a time of 6:35, 11 seconds better than the Bison.

In the closest race of the day, Bucknell won the Varsity Eights race in a time of 5:48, barely edging the Blue Hens, who had a time of 5:48.7. The Delaware team consisted of Carolyn Serey, Andrea Placke, Elizabeth McGarry, Janice Brown, Elizabeth McInturff, Laura McDonald, Dawn Hussnatter, Maureen Gillen, and Lane Kohl.

Bucknell also won the Second Varsity Eights with a time of 6:10, 10 seconds better than Delaware's 6:40 clocking. The Delaware team was made up of Nicole Lombardi, Melanie Turner, Lyra Sawzin, Emily McElwain, Elizabeth Harris, Dawnyel Boucek, Jamie Schoenewald, Cathy Savarese, and Stephanie Miller.

Delaware will return to action Apr. 17-18 when the Hens take part in the Knecht Cup on the Cooper River in Camden, NJ.
