University
of Delaware Women's Rowing Teams Compete
at Carolina Challenge

RALEIGH,
NC -- The University of Delaware women's
rowing team competed in four races at the
Carolina Challenge hosted by the
University of North Carolina Saturday at
Lake Wheeler.
Delaware's
Varsity Eights team of Kenna Plangemann,
Lyra Sawzin, Lane Kohl-at right, Maureen
Gillen, Melanie Turner, Laura Beaufort,
Jess Kostick, Betsy Seeger, and Emily
McElwain placed fourth in the morning race
with a time of 8:02.2 and second in the
afternoon race with a time of
7:40.9.
The
University of Cincinnati won both races,
winning the morning race in 7:23.9
followed by Navy (7:26.5), North Carolina
(7:34.7), and Delaware and capturing the
afternoon race in a time of 7:26.2 ahead
of Delaware and Southern Methodist
(7:44.5).
Delaware's
Second Varsity Eights team of Alison
Harrington, Liz Martin, Nikki Jackowsky,
Christina Stanley, Cathy Savarese, Jamie
Schoenewald, Nicky Bradley, Stephanie
Miller, and Jenn Boutin placed third in
the morning race with a time of 8:12.9 and
third in the afternoon race in
8:12.1.
North
Carolina won the morning race in 7:25.61
followed by Cincinnati (7:33.3) and
Delaware. Navy captured the afternoon
contest with a time of 7:33.4, finishing
ahead of Cincinnati (7:35.1) and
Delaware.
Delaware
will next be in action April 16 when the
Blue Hens compete at the Knecht Cup on the
Cooper River in Camden, NJ.
