ANN ARBOR, MI -- University of Delaware sophomore Laura Beaufort (right) has been selected to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association second team All-Mid Atlantic Region squad.

Beaufort, a native of Washington, DC (Woodrow Wilson HS), becomes the first Blue Hen rower to earn a spot on the all-region team. She was one of 96 student-athletes from 39 schools to earn a spot on the five all-region teams, which were selected by a committee of CRCA member head coaches.

Individuals were selected to the team based on erg scores, height, weight, impact on the speed of the boat, and comments from head coaches.

Beaufort, who earlier this year was named to the CRCA National Scholar-Athlete team, competed in all seven Varsity Eights races for the Blue Hens this spring, leading the group to a second place finish at the Colonial Athletic Association championships and second place finishes in dual competitions at Barry University and the University of North Carolina. The Blue Hens, led by head coach Laura Slice, placed second at the CAA championships as a team and also competed at the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia this season.

As a freshman in 2004, Beaufort helped the Delaware Novice Eights boat capture the CAA title in that event and lead the Blue Hens to their second straight team title. She carries a 3.635 grade point index as a computer science and political science major with a minor in history.

California, Yale, Princeton, Brown, Virginia, Stanford, Wisconsin, and Syracuse all produced five all-region selections.

In addition to the all-region teams, also announced were the five regional coaches of the year. They were Dave O'Neil of California, Lori Dauphiny of Princeton, Will Porter of Yale, Matt Weise of Michigan State, and Kevin Sauer of Virginia.
