ANN ARBOR,
MI -- University of Delaware women's
rowing standouts Lane Kohl (far right) and
Laura Beaufort (near right) have been
named National Scholar-Athletes by the
Collegiate Rowing Coaches
Association.
Kohl, a
junior exercise physiology major from
Mohnton, PA (Governor Mifflin HS), and
Beaufort, a sophomore computer science and
political science major from Washington,
DC (Woodrow Wilson HS), were among 142
student-athletes from 49 Division I
schools honored for their efforts during
the 2004-05 season.
To be
eligible, student-athletes must carry a
3.5 or better grade point index and
compete at least 75 percent of their
team's Varsity Eights races this past
spring.
Kohl, who
was named to the team for the second
straight year, competed in all seven
Varsity Eights races for the Blue Hens
this spring, leading the group to a second
place finish at the Colonial Athletic
Association championships and second place
finishes in dual competitions at Barry
University and the University of North
Carolina. She carries a 3.823 grade point
index as a exercise physiology major with
a minor in strength and
conditioning.
Beaufort
also competed in all seven Varsity Eights
races for the Blue Hens this spring,
leading the group to a second place finish
at the Colonial Athletic Association
championships and second place finishes in
dual competitions at Barry University and
the University of North Carolina. As a
freshman in 2004, she helped the Delaware
Novice Eights boat capture the CAA title
in that event. She carries a 3.635 grade
point index as a computer science and
political science major with a minor in
history.
Among the
142 honored student-athletes, 36 came from
the Central Region, 28 from New England,
28 from the South, 25 from the West, and
25 from the Mid-Atlantic. Delaware, which
competes as part of the Mid-Atlantic
Region, was one of just eight teams in the
region to have a player selected to the
team.
