Blue Hen Novice Eights Boat Wins Petite Final to Lead Delaware at Knecht Cup

CAMDEN, NJ -- The University of Delaware Novice Eights boat captured the petite final competition to highlight action for the Blue Hen women's rowing squad at the second day of the Knecht Cup Sunday on the Cooper River.

In addition to the Novice Eights, Delaware's Second Varsity Eights team placed fourth in the petite finals. The petite finals are considered the consolation finals.

Delaware will return to action next Saturday when it takes part in the Kerr Cup and the unofficial Colonial Athletic Association championships on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia. The Hens have captured the title each of the last two seasons.

The Novice Eights team, which advanced to the petite finals with a fourth place finish its heat Saturday, captured the title Sunday with a time of 7:20.9. Massachusetts placed second in a time of 7:21.1 followed by Villanova (7:24.9), Saint Joseph's (7:29.2), Kansas (7:31.7), and Loyola (8:04.3). Delaware team consisted of Cami Off, Ashley Sparano, Justine Strausser, Stephanie Hendrixson, Kristen Cannatelli (right), Meghan Doletzky, Salena Klass, Lauren Taylor, and Lana Rivers.

In the Second Varsity Eights race, Delaware's team of Alison Harrington, Liz Martin, Nikki Jackowsky, Katie Broullire, Cathy Savarese, Jamie Schoenewald, Nicky Bradley, Stephanie Miller, and Jenn Boutin placed fourth overall with a time of 7:23.4. Marist won the race in a time of 7:13.3 followed by Buffalo (7:19.6), Rhode Island (7:21.9), Delaware, Massachusetts (7:25.9), and Temple (7:40.2).

Delaware had advanced to the petite finals after placing placing second in its heat and third in the semifinals Saturday.
