.jpg) NEWARK, DE -- University of Delaware women's rowing head coach Laura Slice (right) has announced the signing of two recruits who will attend the University and compete for the Blue Hens during the 2005-06 season.
Joining the Blue Hens rowing program this fall will be Elizabeth Carey from Vienna, VA (James Madison High School) and Kaylin Cater from Virginia Beach, VA (Cape Henry Collegiate School).
The 5-8 Carey was a three-year member of the rowing squad at James Madison High School where she also competed for the school's basketball and volleyball squads. She also was a member of the school orchestra. She plans to major in nursing at Delaware.
The 5-9 Carter was a four-year standout for the rowing team at Cape Henry Collegiate School where she also competed four years for the basketball team and two years for the volleyball squad. She plans to major in fashion merchandising at Delaware.
"I am extremely excited to have Elizabeth and Kaylin joining our program next year," said Slice, who will enter her third season as head coach in 2005-06. "They are both two very talented rowers who will bring speed and strength to our novice squad. I am looking forward to their immediate contribution to the team and seeing their growth and development in the years to come."
The Blue Hens competed in seven events during the 2005 spring season and placed second at the Colonial Athletic Association championships April 23 in Philadelphia. Delaware captured the unofficial CAA team title in 2002, 2003,and 2004.
