Delaware Varsity Eights Places Sixth in Petite Finals at Knecht Cup

CAMDEN, NJ -- The University of Delaware women’s rowing team put in a solid showing at the Knecht Cup on the Cooper River Sunday, placing sixth in the petite finals in the Varsity Eights race and finishing fourth in the third level finals in the Novice Eights race.

On Saturday, the Blue Hens placed fourth in their heat of the Varsity Fours and sixth in their heat of the Second Varsity Eights race while the Varsity Eights team finished third in their heat and fourth in the semifinals to advance to the petite finals.

The Varsity Eights team of coxswain Kenna Plangemann, Melanie Turner, Lane Kohl, Christina Stanley, Laura Beaufort, Elizabeth Carey, Jess Kostick, Justine Strausser, and Cathy Savarese posted an overall 12th place finish out of 26 teams as it rowed to a time of 7:38.6 to place sixth in the petite (consolation) finals. The Blue Hens rowed to a time of 7:13.2 to place third in their heat on Saturday (behind Massachusetts and Buffalo) and placed fourth in the semifinals. In the petite finals, Saint Joseph’s won with a time of 7:15.0 followed by Rhode Island, Boston College, Colgate, Dayton, and Delaware.

In the Novice Eights competition, the Hens placed second in the morning heat with a time of 8:29.7 to advance to the third level finals where they finished fourth in a time of 7:58.8 for an overall finish of 16th out of 31 teams. Delaware’s team consisted of coxswain Amanda Burton, Candace Quinn, Lisa Ferrara, Kiersten Joesten, Liz Clark, Catherine Hansen, Lisa Medina, Taima McCartney, and Nicolette Lotrionte. Temple won the third level finals race with a time of 7:47.5 followed by Loyola, Rhode Island, and Delaware.

Delaware’s Varsity Fours team of coxswain Callie Tegan, Emily Canniff, Maria Bellumori, Katie Gooding, and Cami Off rowed to a time of 9:30.5 to place fourth in its heat, trailing winner Villanova (8;25.3), Lafayette, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and George Mason.

In the Second Varsity Eights, Delaware’s team of coxswain Alison Harrington, Katie Broullire, Nikki Jackowsky, Jenn Boutin, Rachel Thomas, Lily Chavarriaga, Lynn Hamski, Kristen Cannatelli, and Lana Rivers placed sixth in its heat with a time of 7:27.9. Temple won the heat in 7:10.1 followed by Saint Joseph’s, Villanova, LaSalle, and Drexel.
