WILMINGTON, Del. -- The University of Delaware women’s rowing team opened its fall exhibition season Sept. 27 in a tri-meet with Saint Joseph’s and Temple and captured two of the three races in a meet held on the Christina River.
Delaware won the Novice Eights and Varsity Fours events and finished third in the Varsity Eights competition. The races were held on the 2.4-mile course with fast conditions due to a swift tail current.
The Blue Hen Novice Eights team of Hillary Levitz, Erica Morgan, Jamie Logan, Allegra Smith, Erin Hoban, Rachael Conway, Kristin Endres, Jaime Hedrick, and Grace Capreol rowed to a winning time of 14:34.6, defeating runner-up Saint Joseph’s (17:14.1).
Delaware’s Varsity Fours team of Jennifer Popkin, Sara Leviton, Grace Bennett, Valerie Glace, and Sarah Baillie also captured first place, posting a time of 16:37.8 to best runner-up Temple in 17:15.7.
In the Varsity Eights event, Delaware’s A team placed third overall with a time of 14:22.9 while Delaware’s B team was seventh with a clocking of 15:44.4. Saint Joseph’s B won the event with a time of 13:42.3 to defeat Temple A (14:04.9), Delaware A, Saint Joseph’s A (14:25.8), Temple B (14:44.4), and Saint Joseph’s C (15:16.0).
Delaware’s A team consisted of Avery Griffin, Meredith Rubin, Darra Finnerty, Elizabeth Carey, Liz Cretekos, Regine Adrien, Steph Lynch, Mary Grace Maggiano, and Katelyn Huber. Members of the B team were Marra Green, Taima McCartney, Leanna Colubriale, Kaitlin Roehrer, Laura Stiffler, Katie Gooding, Brittany Hayes, Lisa Medina, and Nicolette Lotrionte.
