CAMDEN, N.J. -- The University of Delaware women’s rowing Freshman Novice Fours and the Varsity Eights teams both advanced to the finals and the Novice Eights crew moved on to the petite (consolation) finals to highlight the competition at the Knecht Cup Friday on the Cooper River.
In addition to the three teams that advanced to Saturday’s action, Blue Hen teams placed third in its heat and sixth in the semifinals in the Varsity Fours race, fourth in their heat in the Novice Eights, and fifth in their heat in the Second Varsity Eights race Friday.
In addition to the three teams that advanced, Blue Hen teams will also be competing in heats in the Second Varsity Fours and the Second Novice Eights races on Saturday.
The Delaware Varsity Eights team of Marra Green, Meredith Rubin, Darra Finnerty (at right in photo), Regine Adrien, Rachael Conway, Mary Grace Maggiano (at left in photo), Elizabeth Carey, Katelyn Huber, and Steph Lynch advanced to the finals for the first time at the meet since 2001 as it placed fourth in its heat with a time of 7:26.4) and placed second in the semifinals with a time of 7:26.8, nine seconds behind winner Buffalo.
The Novice Fours squad of Rachel Waylett, Laura Wertman, Chelsea McFadden, Virginia Hall, and Tori Drach also advanced to the finals as the Hens placed second in their heat with a time of 8:22.6 and then placed second in the semifinals with a clocking of 8:56.9, eight seconds behind race winner Tulsa.
The Novice Eights team of Christa Kurman, Kristine McGrath, Mary Scholz, Erica Morgan, Lauren Kolsky, Courtney Williams, Julie Ridgeway, Lauren Kanaskie, and Jamie Hedrick placed fourth in its heat (8:02.0) and then fourth in the semifinals (7:43.6) to advance. Buffalo won the semifinal race in 7:29.0 followed by Connecticut and Wisconsin.
Also for the Hens, the Novice Fours group of Avery Griffin, Grace Capreol, Kristin Endres, Valerie Glace, and Sarah Baillie rowed to a time of 8:59.6 to place sixth in the semifinals after finishing third in its heat while the Second Varsity Eights team of Hillary Levitz, Sara Leviton, Liz Cretekos, Nicolette Lotrionte, Brittany Hayes, Erin Hoban, Lisa Medina, Kaitlin Roehrer, and Leanna Colubriale) placed fifth in its heat with a clocking of 7:53.6.
