NEW YORK - The University of Delaware
women's cross country team placed ninth in the ECAC meet and
the Blue Hen men placed 11th in the IC4A event in a meet at
Van Cortland Park Friday afternoon.
Princeton won the 13-team men's event
with 70 points, edging runner-up Duke. Delaware totalled 312
points, finishing ahead of Villanova and
Syracuse.
In the women's race, Duke paced the
12-team field with 54 points, outdistancing Cornell with 64.
Delaware had 239 points to finish ahead of Liberty, Penn,
and Hofstra.
Senior Mike DiGennaro was the Blue
Hen men's top finisher, leading Delaware in a race for the
fourth time this season. He placed 34th overall with a time
of 25:47 over the five-mile course. Peter Kelly was
67th in 26:53.40, Matt Swierzbinski was 68th in
26:54.10, and Robb Munro was 69th in 26:55.60 for the
Blue Hens. Fairleigh Dickinson's Steve Ondieki won the race
in 24:24.0.
On the women's side, Delaware senior
Caron Marra (Newark HS) led the Hens with a 15th
place finish in a time of 18:37 on the 5,000 meter course.
She has now led the Blue Hens in all five meets this
season.
Also for the Hens, Aimee Alexander
was 38th in a time of 19;16, Jenn Krisch was 59th in
a time of 20:04, and Krista Kugler was 63rd in a time
of 20:33. Duke's Sheila Arawal won the race in a time of
17:47.60.
