Alexander Leads Blue Hens To Sixth
Place Finish
NEW YORK, NY -- Junior Aimee
Alexander placed 17th overall to lead the University of
Delaware women's cross country team to a sixth place team
finish at the season opening Fordham Invitational Saturday
at Van Cortlandt State Park.
Alexander (Carmel/Stormville, NY),
Delaware's top runner with the graduation of Caron Marra,
covered the five-kilometer course in 19:57.8 to finish 17th,
Delaware's only finisher in the Top 25.
Duke captured the team title in the
15-team field with a score of 22 to outdistance Princeton
(49), Harvard (107), Sacred Heart (107), Holy Cross (160),
and Delaware (168). Host Fordham placed seventh
overall.
The Blue Hens also placed three runners
in the top 10 in the freshman race that was held separately.
Delaware's Theresa Beinke (Gloucester
Catholic/Monroeville, NJ) was fifth in a time of 22:15.5
while teammate Lisa Salvatore (Mercy/Baltimore, MD)
placed sixth with a time of 22:47.8.
Delaware will host the Delaware
Invitational next Saturday at White Clay Creek State
Park.
