Leads Delaware Women's Cross Country To
Fifth-Place Finish At CAA

NEW MARKET, VA --- The University of
Delaware men's cross country team finished
fourth out of seven team with 107 points
while the Blue Hen women's team was fifth
out of eight teams with 127 points at the
Colonial Athletic Association
Championships Saturday morning at New
Market Battlefield.
William & Mary, which had the top
four finishers, won the men's title with
18 points, followed by James Madison (45),
Virginia Commonwealth (87), and Delaware,
which had finished third in all three
previous years at the CAA Championships.
UNC Wilmington was fifth with 144 points,
while Hofstra was sixth with 168 points
and George Mason was seventh with 209
points.
The Tribe also took the women's
championship with 36 points, ahead of
James Madison (37), Virginia Commonwealth
(106), Towson (116), Delaware, UNC
Wilmington (149), Hofstra (155), and
George Mason (237).
Matt Keally of William & Mary won
the eight-kilometer men's race in
25:15.60, while Shannon Saunders took the
six-kilometer women's race in
21:00.40.
Colleen O'Brien (Lebanon, NJ/North
Hunterdon) led the Delaware women's team
by finishing third in 21:27.00, the
highest by a Blue Hen woman in the CAA
Championships and the first top 10 finish
since Aimee Alexander placed sixth at the
2001 championships.
Kate Klim (Cummaquid, MA/Barnstable)
placed 30th for the Blue Hens in 24:03.90,
while Ashley Olsen (Mount Laurel,
NJ/Bishop Eustace) was 36th in 24:25.50
and Allison Behrle (Manassas, VA/Stonewall
Jackson) came in 40th in 24:41.80. Sari
Weissbard (Fairlawn, NJ/Fairlawn) placed
43rd in 24:53.20, Leslie Wason
(Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) was 47th in
25:03.30, Brenda Greene (Hanover,
MA/Hanover) finished 48th in 25:08.80, and
Mary Martini (Hummelstown, PA/Bishop
McDevitt) came in 49th in 25:10.30.
Stefanie Gordon (Wilmington,
DE/Brandywine) finished 55th in 25:28.80,
Meghan Weaver (Harwood, MD/Archbishop
Spalding) was 65th in 26:00.90, Toni Riggi
(South Glens Falls, NY/South Glens Falls)
placed 67th in 26:16.00, and Colleen Reid
(Wilmington, DE/Padua) came in 68th in
26:19.10.
Tyler Mayforth (Wilmington, DE/Mount
Pleasant) was the top men's finisher for
the Blue Hens, as he placed 22nd in
27:02.50, just ahead of P.J. Meany
(Hockessin, DE/Salesianum), who was 23rd
in 27:14.70 and was not the top Delaware
finisher for the first time this season.
Peter Kane (Rhinebeck, NY/Rhinebeck) was
28th in 27:39.10, Matt Harrell
(Middletown, DE/Middletown) came in 29th
in 27:45.90, and Bradley Dodson
(Martinsburg, WV/Martinsburg) placed 30th
in 27:56.10.
Kevin DuPrey (Strasburg,
PA/Lampeter-Strasburg) finished 35th in
28:08.10 for Delaware, just ahead of Kyle
Schmid (Lutherville, MD/Towson), who was
36th in 28:09.40, and Jason Gordon
(Newark, DE/Christiana), who placed 37th
in 28:12.70. Mike Zeberkiewicz (Newark,
DE/Salesianum) came in 39th in 28:27.00,
Tim Vitez (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield)
was 41st in 28:46.80; Daniel Frey (York,
PA/York Suburban) finished 46th in
28:56.20, and Matt Bryden (Ellicott City,
MD/Wilde Lake) placed 51st in
29:25.20.
