MINNEAPOLIS, MN -- The University of Delaware women’s cross country team finished in 29th place while the Blue Hen men finished 31st at the 2006 Roy Griak Cross Country Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota Saturday afternoon.

The Delaware women finished 29th out of 30 teams with 781 points at the invitational, while the UD men were 31st out of 34 teams with 891 points. UC Santa Barbara captured the women’s title with 87 points, while Arizona won the men’s title with 142 points.

The Blue Hen women were led by Julia Somers, who finished 116th in the six-kilometer course in 23:31.90. Colleen O’Brien (right) came in 183rd in 24:23.05, while Brook Maguire was 187th in 24:25.40 and Jessica Leitsch placed 212th in 24:49.70. Lindsay Schmiedel finished 240th in 25:10.40, while Kerrigan Smith was 246th in 25:26.60 and Liz Paul came in 256th in 25:37.50.

Meghan McGrath placed 261st iin 25:44.25, Meghan Weaver finished 273rd in 26:24.60, Annie Kowtuniak was 278th in 26:48.00, and Leslie Wason came in 283rd in 27:55.25.

P.J. Meany led the Delaware men by finishing 174th in the eight-kilomter course in 26:52.35, while Tyler Mayforth was 195th in 27:08.05 and Kyle Schmid came in 199th in 27:12.35. Gregg Cantwell placed 222nd in 27:29.60, while Nick Pyle finished 248th in 27:54.25 and Mike Zeberkiewicz came in 260th in 28:07.30. Chris Bourke finished 261st in 28:09.70, Jimmy Daly was 291st in 28:56.35, and Tim Brock placed 292nd in 29:14.20.

Stephanie Rothstein of UC Santa Barbara won the women’s race in 21:12.45, while Josh McDougal of Liberty took the men’s race in 24:14.05.

Both Blue Hen teams return to action on Friday, September 29 when they compete in the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University. The men’s race will start at 2 p.m. while the women’s race will begin at 2:45 p.m.
