RICHMOND, VA. -- For the second straight year, University of Delaware cross country standout Christina Antonopoulos has been named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association team.
Antonopoulos (at right), a junior from York, Pa. (York Suburban High School), was one of 12 student-athletes selected to the team based on voting from the 10 league head coaches. The honors are awarded for overall performance for the 2008 season.
An honor student as a biochemistry major with a minor in German, Antonopoulos earned her third letter this fall after leading the Blue Hens to a fifth place finish at the CAA championships in November and the team title at the UD Blue Hen Classic in October.
She was the team’s top finisher in four of the six races in which she competed this past fall, including an 11th place finish at the CAA championships and an eighth place finish at the season-ending Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) meet to earn All-East laurels. She also led the Blue Hens with a second place finish at the Blue Hen Classic and a fifth place showing at the Delaware Invitational.
Antonopoulos, who earned the team Most Valuable Player Award a year ago when she placed eighth at the CAA meet, has been her team’s top finisher 11 times in 19 career competitions, including 10 of the last 12. She has posted nine career Top 10 finishes.
She was joined on the All-CAA team by Emily Anderson, Heather Beichner, Meghan Burns, Kayley Byrne, Betsy Graney, and Lynn Morelli of William & Mary, Janel Blancett and Caitlin Price of Georgia State, Aspen Foster and Alison Paris of James Madison, and Brittany Moriarity of Northeastern. Blancett was named Athlete of the Year, Beichner was named Rookie of the Year, and William & Mary’s Kathy Newberry was named Coach of the Year.
Delaware did not have an all-conference selection on the men’s side. Georgia State’s Mark Steeds was named Athlete of the Year, William & Mary’s Peter Dorrell was named Rookie of the Year, and William & Mary’s Alex Gibby was picked as Coach of the Year.
