.jpg) NEWARK, Del. -- The Blue Hen men’s and women’s cross country teams, which will host the Delaware Invitational this Saturday at White Clay Creek State Park, were each ranked in the Mid-Atlantic Region Cross Country Preseason Polls announced earlier this week.
The Delaware men were ranked No. 14 in the first poll of the year, while the Blue Hen women ranked No. 15.
Georgetown topped the men’s poll, followed by Penn State, Villanova, Princeton, Saint Joseph’s, Duquesne, La Salle, Pennsylvania, Lehigh, Navy, Maryland, Bucknell, Pittsburgh, Delaware, and Rutgers.
West Virginia claimed the top spot in the women’s poll, ahead of Villanova, Princeton, Georgetown, Penn State, Pennsylvania, Navy, Maryland, Bucknell, La Salle, Duquesne, Lehigh, Rutgers, Towson, and Delaware.
Both Blue Hens teams will host the annual Delaware Invitational this Saturday, the first of two home meets this season along with the Blue & Gold Invitational on Oct. 17. The Delaware Invitational men’s race, which begins at 10:30 a.m., will feature Delaware, Delaware State, Georgian Court, Holy Family, La Salle, Navy, Philadelphia University, Rowan, Rutgers-Newark, Richard Stockton, Stevens Tech, and Wilmington University.
The women’s race, beginning at 11:15 a.m., features Delaware, Delaware State, Georgian Court, Holy Family, Philadelphia University, Rutgers-Newark, Saint Joseph’s, Richard Stockton, Stevens Tech, Towson, and Wilmington University.
Both UD squads opened their seasons last Saturday at the James Madison Open, as the Delaware men finished fourth while the women placed fifth.
