NEWARK, Del. -- Chris Bourke won the men’s Division I race while Julia Somers (at right) captured the women’s race as the University of Delaware men’s and women’s cross country teams hosted the Delaware Invitational Saturday morning at White Clay Creek State Park.
Bourke took the eight-kilometer men’s race in 26:14.94 to lead the UD men’s squad to the Division I team title. The Blue Hens totaled 21 points, finishing ahead of Navy with 38 points, La Salle with 83 points, and Delaware State with 110 points. Wilmington University won the Division II/III team title with 50 points.
Nick Pyle finished second for the Blue Hens in 26:32.10, while Andy Weaver was third in 26:38.08. Kevin Kemmerle, who finished seventh in 26:58.06, and Steve Vincent, who was eighth in 27:02.33, also finished among the top 10 for Delaware.
Mitch Kastoff finished 11th in 27:17.10, while Taylor Hinson came in 12th in 27:19.75 and Aidan Galasso placed 15th in 27:30.23. Mike O’Brian was 19th in 27:38.27 for the Blue Hens, while Eric Macedo was 21st in 27:40.05, Nate Parmenter placed 25th in 27:51.34, and Pierce Conlon finished 39th in 29:18.62.
Towson won the Division I women’s team title with 34 points, followed by Delaware with 39 points, Saint Joseph’s with 52 points, and Delaware State with 117 points. Philadelphia University won the Division II/III title with 32 points.
Somers crossed the finish line in 18:49.74 as she captured the five-kilometer women’s race, while Jessie Ermak finished fourth in 19:03.52. Karen Mandrachia was the other top 10 finisher for the Blue Hens, as she placed seventh in 19:15.54.
Katie Deinert was 12th for Delaware in 19:20.36 while Ali Lambert came in 15th in 19:38.73, Katy Loughran placed 16th in 19:42.62, and Lexi Ambrogi finished 17th in 19:43.12.
Sophie Kauffman placed 18th for the Blue Hens in 19:45.67, while Alison Zukowski was 19th in 19:48.61 and Kelly Wright finished 21st in 19:52.16.
Both Blue Hen teams return to action on Friday, October 2 when they compete in the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University.
