BOSTON -- Sophomore Jon
DiNozzi placed sixth in the pole vault and junior
Jamin Elliott was seventh in the triple to jump to
highlight University of Delaware athletes at the IC4A Men's
Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend at the
Reggie Lewis Sports Complex.
For the Delaware women, senior Carol
Oliveri placed 17th in the pole vault as the Blue Hens'
lone competitor at the ECAC Championships also held at the
Reggie Lewis Complex.
DiNozzi (Fox Lane (NY)/Bedford,
NY/Middletown, DE) was the Hens' top finisher as he placed
sixth in the pole vault with a leap of 15-feet, 9-inches.
The school record holder in the event in his first season at
Delaware after transferring from George Mason, DiNozzi
earned All-East honors with his top eight finish.
Elliott (Churchland/Portsmouth, VA), an
All-Atlantic 10 wide receiver in football for the Blue Hens,
also earned All-East honors as he placed seventh in the
triple jump with a leap of 48-6 1/4.
DiNozzi and Elliott's top 10 finishes
gave Delaware five points to finish tied for 36th place.
Penn State won the team title.
Also competing for the Delaware men were
juniors Butch Patrick (Newark, DE HS) and Ricardo
Walker (Morrow/Englewood, NJ) in the 60 meter dash.
Neither advanced to the finals, but Patrick, nursing a
hamstring pull, placed 21st with a time of 7.04 while Walker
was 31st with a time of 7.13. Patrick also qualified in the
long jump but did not compete due to the injury.
For the Delaware women, Oliveri (St.
Rose/Brick, NJ) earned her third career top 20 finish at the
ECAC meet. The Delaware record holder in the event, she
vaulted to a height of 10-10 to place 17th overall in the
pole vault event. She placed 11th as a sophomore in 1999 and
15th last season as a junior.
The University of Pittsburgh captured the
women's team title.
