ECAC Indoor Track & Field Championships

Alexander Places 16th; Chiller 18th in Season Ending Meet

 

BOSTON, MA -- University of Delaware senior sprinter Butch Patrick placed seventh in the 60 meter dash to earn All-East honors and highlight Blue Hen performances at the ECAC and IC4A Indoor Track and Field Championships Sunday at the Reggie Lewis Sports Complex.

A total of four Blue Hen student-athletes competed with senior Aimee Alexander (Carmel/Stormville, NY) and junior Jennie Chiller (Sharon/Sharon, MA) participating in the ECAC meet and Patrick (Newark/Newark, DE) and Jon DiNozzi (Fox Lane, NY/Middletown, DE) competing in the IC4A meet.

Patrick, who joined pole vaulter DiNozzi as the second UD athlete in two years to earn All-East honors, ran to a time of 6.92 in the finals to place seventh. A two-time league championship Most Outstanding Performer, Patrick holds UD indoor records in the 60 meters, 200 meters, and long jump.

East Carolina University's Julien Dunkley won the race in a time of 6.69. Patrick earned two points for Delaware, helping the Hens place 53rd in the team standings. Georgetown won the team title.

DiNozzi, competing for the first time in two weeks due to a leg injury, did not reach the minimum height in the pole vault event and tied for 11th place. He was one of 12 vaulters who did not reach the minimum height of 15-5. UNC Wilmington's Matt Price won the event with a height of 16-4 3/4. DiNozzi holds the UD record in the event at 16-2 3/4.

On the women's side, Alexander placed 16th in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 10:03.61 while Chiller was 18th in the weight throw with a toss of 46-11 3/4. Kate O'Neill of Yale won the 3,000 meter race in 9:33.38 while Wadudah Nurul-Islam of Connecticut won the weight throw with a distance of 64-11 1/4. Seton Hall claimed the team title. Alexander holds the UD record in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:52.63.

The meet was the final action for the UD men's and women's indoor track and field teams for the 2001-2002 season. The outdoor season will begin March 23 at the Navy Invitational.
