NEW YORK - Brad Dodson placed second and broke his own school record in the mile run and Rachel Young captured the womens' shot put competition for the second straight week to lead the University of Delaware men's and women's track and field teams at the New York University Fasttrack Invitational Indoor Track and Field meet Friday night at the New York City Armory.
Dodson ran the mile in a time of 4:07.43 to break his own mark of 4:09.93 set earlier this seasons. Also for the Delaware men, Gregg Cantwell was second in the 3,000 meters (8:29.88), Tyler Mayforth was third in the 5,000 meters (15:11.73), and Will Jurkowski was sixth in the 800 meters (1:54.29).
Young won her third shot put title of the season and her second in two weeks as she recorded a distance of 13.36 meters to take top honors. Also for the UD women, the 4 x 800 meter relay team of Lauren Heenan (at right), Sari Weissbard, Jessica Leitsch, and Colleen O'Brien placed second in 9:38.04 and Brooke Maguire finished fourth in the 3,000 meters with a clocking of 10:10.75.
The meet was the final regular season action of the year for the Blue Hens. The ECAC and IC4A regional championships will be held next weekend, March 3-5, in Boston.
