PRINCETON, NJ -- University of Delaware athletes captured seven first place finishes, including two by sophomore Amanda Marshall (at right), and sophomore Michelle Gomes and senior Asha Quant each set school records to highlight Blue Hen performances at the Princeton Indoor Track and Field Invitational Saturday afternoon at Jadwin Gymnasium.
The Blue Hen women captured five events led by Marshall (Highstown/Cranbury, NJ), who won the shot put with a throw of 42-2 1/4 and also took first place in the weight throw with a personal best toss of 52-8 1/4, the fourth best throw in school history.
Sophomore Kelli McDonald won her fourth meet title of the year as she captured the pole vault with a leap of 12-1, the second best jump in school history, Gomes won the 60 meter dash with a school record time of 7.66, and Quant won the 200 meters with a clocking of 26.01.
On the men’s side, Delaware got wins from freshman Nick Morrissey in the 200 meters (23.06) and from senior Kyle Schmid in the 3,000 meters (8:47.32).
Gomes set a new school record in the 60 meters with a time of 7.66, breaking the mark of 7.73 set by current teammate Brittany Wright in 2005. Quant also placed second in the 60 meters with a time of 7.88 and was second in the long jump with a leap of 19 3/4, breaking the school record of 18-10 3/4 by Mandy Stille in 2004.
Also placing second for the UD women were Rachel Young in the shot put (41-11 1/2), Alexi Capsouras in the 400 meters (59.70), Wright in the 200 meters (26.27), and the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Capsouras, Laura Heenan, Crine Marquez, and Quant (3:55.02). Wright also placed third in the 60 meters (7.90).
Also for the Delaware men, Brandon Swartout was second in the long jump (22-5 1/4), Mike Ward was second in the 3,000 meters (8:58.59), Kyle Nagy was third in the 200 meters (23.10) and fourth in the 60 meters (7.21), Jared Wasser was third in the shot put (51-6 1/4), Conrad Rapp was fourth in the pole vault (14-11), and the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Steven Jackson, Chris Johnson, Morrissey, and Mike Roth was fourth in a time of 3:27.99.
